1The Doran Family enters the 55+ luxury apartment market
The Doran Group begins construction on Olinia-Maple Grove, marking the company’s official entrance into the active adult housing sector. The $46 million, 132-unit project financed by American National Bank is the first in what company president and CEO Evan Doran sees as a collection of boutique, highly crafted luxury apartment brands geared toward people age 55 and older.2025
2610 West sells for $113 million

The Doran Group sells 610 West for $113 million in early 2025. Located at 6717 Oak Grove Parkway in Brooklyn Park, adjacent to the Highway 610 corridor, the community includes 480 apartments and direct-entry townhomes, fetching $235,417 per unit.

3The 2nd building opens at The Triple Crown Residences at Canterbury

An additional 305 apartment units and thousands of square feet of additional amenities open at The Triple Crown Residences at Canterbury, completing the first-of-its-kind gated apartment community in the SW metro.

4Kelly Doran’s Peaceful Passing

On December 28, 2023, Kelly Doran passed away peacefully at the age of 66, after battling an aggressive form of cancer. Kelly was larger than life, lived boldly and had a giant heart. Hundreds of people gathered for a celebration of his life, including family, long-time friends, business partners, collaborators, employees past and present and numerous elected officials. The Mayor of Minneapolis declared it “Kelly Doran Day” in the City of Minneapolis.

5The Reserve at Arbor Lakes 4th residential building opens

The fourth and final residence at The Reserve at Arbor Lakes opens, including 164 new apartments and townhomes, a private outdoor pool terrace (the third outdoor pool terrace in the gated community) and underground heated corridors that connect to the clubhouse for easy year-round access.

6The Ruby opens

The Ruby Apartments opens 254 apartments and a 15,000 square foot clubhouse on a 10.6 acre site near Northeast Minneapolis in suburban St. Anthony.

7Lyra Apartments opens in Centennial, CO and sells for $95 million

Lyra opens in Centennial, CO and sells for $95 million six months later. Conveniently located in the Denver Tech Center along I-25, the 207-unit property leased at record pace.

8The Reserve at Arbor Lakes 3rd Building Opens

The third residence at The Reserve at Arbor Lakes opens, including 151 new apartments, a private outdoor pool terrace and underground heated corridors that connect to the clubhouse for easy year-round access.

9Expo Opens

The Doran family opens Expo apartments, a 787,125-square-foot multifamily development in the historic St. Anthony Falls district of downtown Minneapolis – with sweeping views of the Mississippi river and skyline. The development includes 369 luxury apartment and townhome units and more than 60,000 square feet of amenity spaces.

Nestled within the lush Minnesota River Valley and with easy access to downtown Minneapolis and the entire metropolitan area, The Triple Crown Residences at Canterbury opens its first building with 321 apartments, a massive central pool terrace and a 19,000 square foot clubhouse.

The second residence within The Reserve at Arbor Lakes gated community opens with 123 new apartments, a private central terrace and underground heated corridors connected to the clubhouse for easy, year-round access.

Aria-Edina offers 184 high-end apartments and townhomes in the exclusive suburban community of Edina. Premium residences combined with an expansive rooftop pool terrace and eco-friendly design contribute to it being named a “Minnesota’s Best Apartment Community” by the Star Tribune readership for two years.

13The Village at Arbor Lakes Opens

The first commercial spaces at the Village at Arbor Lakes – a 50,000 square feet retail development – open in Maple Grove, adjacent to The Reserve at Arbor Lakes.

14610 West 4th and Final Phase Opens

An additional 202 apartments open at 610 West, bringing the total apartments and townhomes in the community to 480.

15The Reserve at Arbor Lakes opens

Located in the heart of Maple Grove’s bustling shopping district in the NW Twin Cities suburbs, The Reserve at Arbor Lakes evolved the multi-phased apartment community with clubhouse model to new heights as a gated community. The first of four distinct residential buildings plus a 25,000 square foot clubhouse and central pool terrace, includes an initial 255 apartments and direct-entry townhomes.

17The Moline opens in Downtown Hopkins

The Moline includes 241 apartments and townhomes and 35,000 square feet of amenity spaces located in historic downtown Hopkins, an affluent western suburb of Minneapolis. Bike and pedestrian pathways combined with transit options and close proximity to Highway 169 and the Crosstown provide easy access to the chain of lakes, downtown Minneapolis and the Greater Metropolitan area.

18610 West Opens in suburban NW Metro

The Doran Group pioneered the multi-phased luxury apartment concept with an attached clubhouse, opening the first such community in the Twin Cities – 610 West. An initial 178 apartments and direct-entry townhomes lease quickly in the first new multifamily project to be built in the suburban community in two decades.

19The Doran Family sells remaining student housing portfolio for $93 million

The Doran family sells The Bridges and The Knoll apartment buildings on the University of Minnesota campus, exiting the student housing market.

20The Doran family purchases Greenway Lakes Commons

The nearly 90,000 square feet Greenway Lakes Commons is a convenient, neighborhood-friendly retail center located in Minneapolis on West Lake Street near the north end of Bde Maka Ska. With well-known local eateries, health and wellness clinics, a major pharmacy, dry-cleaning services and a nationally recognized bookstore – all adjacent to the Greenway Bike Path – the retail center is a convenient one-stop-shop for area residents.

An additional building (the “West” building) with 158 luxury townhomes and apartments, including the Father Hennepin penthouse, opens at Mill & Main.

23The Doran family enters the luxury multifamily space with Mill & Main

Mill & Main, a two building high-amenity luxury apartment and townhome community situated along the historic Mississippi Riverfront in Minneapolis, opens to much fanfare – with its “East” building offering an initial 180 homes.

24The Doran family leads the high-end student housing trend
Kelly Doran leads the high-end student housing development space, with a zeal to remake his alma mater into an on-campus living experience for students. The University of Minnesota had a long history as a commuter campus, and the Doran family set out to change that. During this five-year period, they develop the historic Dinkydome, Sydney Hall, 412 Lofts, Ede on Oak, The Knoll and The Bridges.
